Monday Outfit

Image
Monday OutfitWelcome Monday! It was a busy weekend, but I managed to get some time to work on my Etsy items. Today, I share one of the new kimonos I just put online.
And here it is:

I chose to wear jeans and a white shell for the first picture. I included a gold, long necklace to complement the swirls of gold and brown in the fabric. I added a woven belt for a nice touch, as well.
The brown purse has an animal print scarf tied to it to carry through the theme of swirling colors.
The duster is 100% viscose or rayon. It was restyled from a scarf I found a few months ago when shopping. I loved the pattern and material and knew it would make a great kimono or duster.
It's also versatile. Tie it in a knot for a different look or wear it as a scarf.

You can see the kimono here.

By the way, it rained yesterday morning when I took the pictures, so you'll see puddles of water. I actually stepped in some water with my new shoes. I fell in love with them when I was in Beall's the other …

The Bomber Jacket

The Bomber Jacket
The bomber jacket has a long history. I'm not going to expound on it, but let's just say it went from military clothing to the punk scene and now is a fashion icon.
What I love about the fashion bomber is the versatility. Feel free to wear it with torn jeans or black slacks. If you find a floral print, as I did, consider topping it over a black dress. The ideas are endless!
I had looked at this jacket a few times and discounted it because of the floral print. I thought it would be kind of frumpy. Once I put it on, my opinion changed. Push up the sleeves, and the jacket takes on a completely different look. Because it's black, I can really dress it up. The best part is I got it on sale!
The casual jean look:

Bomber jackets are perfect with a white T shirt, jeans, and sneakers. I tossed on some jewelry including a large bracelet to add a little pizazz.
Now the look with black slacks:

I apologize for the blurry pics but the sun is out and the humidity is up. My p…

Black and Tan

Black and Tan
It's been a busy week and it's only Thursday! Monday I went to the eye doctor and am anxiously waiting for my new glasses. Thank goodness for insurance, or my glasses would have cost me more than a $1000 by the time you add in progressive, no glare, and transitional lenses for the car. Wow! I hope I don't have to update for a few years. My new frames are fun frames. I picked out a pair of Coach in a dark blue and purple swirls. The frame is dark enough, so it almost has a black look, perfect for going with whatever I wear.
I also had one of my posts picked up by Covered Perfectly, the American made clothes I've talked about. They ran my review on the royal blue top I just purchased. The post is Royal Blue Day.
I've also been busy working on the Etsy site. My sister and I sold some of our kimono tops, so it's back to sewing and promoting some of our other pieces. That brings me to my post today. I'm showing you a black and tan bolero style cover …

Black and White; Long and Lean

Black and White; Long and Lean
My numbers have been climbing lately. When I speak of numbers, I'm referring to my blood sugar and my weight.
We all know that our numbers are important to our health, especially as we age. After all, we want to feel and look our best. I've gained weight in the past year, ugh. My blood sugar went from 110 in the morning to 140, as well. When my numbers are not where I want them to be, I'm sluggish, tired, and I just don't feel good about myself.
I like being in control of my health, so a week ago, I decided to do something about my numbers. If I can get my weight under control through healthy eating, my blood sugar goes down.
In a week, I've dropped my blood sugar to 115 just by eating less and better. I know that dropping the added pounds will take close to a month of eating better and then I need to maintain that weight.
Besides controlling the numbers, feeling good about how we look helps us as we age. It builds confidence. I spend …

A Royal Blue Day

A Royal Blue Day
The other day, Pauline Durban, founder of Covered Perfectly, put a comment on Facebook about wearing the royal blue color in her line of tops instead of wearing black, as she often does. I had just purchased her simple comfort top in royal blue, so the post resonated with me.
The Covered Perfectly simple comfort top is available in a beautiful shade of blue that will brighten up your day. Not only is the color pleasing, the MicroModal material is as soft feeling as a worn T-shirt.
Today, my post is about that top and three outfits I created for it. But first, a little about the clothing item.
The top comes in an array of colors, so if blue isn't for you, I'm sure you can find a color that will appeal to you such as coral, navy, teal, or violet, as well as black and white.  Because the top runs a little on the snug side, size up. I usually wear a medium or a large, so I sized up to the large and am glad I did. However, the other styles run true to size.

Coupon Special

Coupon Special
My sister and I have been busy making more pieces for the Etsy shop, Polly's from the Heart. I just listed two of the items and am offering a special coupon code for those who read this blog. The coupon will be available until the end of August. You may use it on any of the items that total $20 or more.
Here are the two new listings, starting with the bolero jacket.

This bolero jacket was a scarf we restyled. The colors are gray, cream, and black streaming in lines, creating a really pretty pattern. There are slits on the side and the front naturally folds over. If you visit the Etsy site, you will see more pictures. The summer cover up will fit most ladies. You can see it here.
Our second piece is a duster or kimono. This is really a great piece. It will fit ladies who wear a size small to a size large.

I am wearing black pants and a black shell with this kimono or duster to create a fun and dramatic look. White jeans or a dress would look great with this. The top par…

Summer Jacket Sales

Summer Jacket Sales
Yesterday we went to Ocala for a Sunday meal with my sister, brother-in-law, and my great nephew who is spending the summer with his grandparents. It was a wonderful day, but hot, hot, hot. Summer in Florida is hot and humid with afternoon showers. So, I always take a summer jacket with me, just in case I get caught in one of those afternoon rains.
Summer jackets are sometimes overlooked because it's warm. Who needs a jacket? Actually, the summer jacket serves a number of purposes, and it's a step up when planning an outfit. They are great for air conditioned restaurants and stores, to protect you from the sun, and of course, the occasional rain event.  They are also light, so you can comfortably wear them even when the temperatures start to rise.
I bought this summer jacket in Dillard's during their July sale two years ago. It's my go to jacket when I wear khaki, black, or white.

I love the animal print of purple, black, and tan. Different from may o…

Summer Sales

Summer Sales
It's July, and along with fireworks comes the summer sales. I don't know about you, but I love going to summer sales. Since I live in Florida, I know that the summer items I pick up will be worn in the middle of the winter. Sorry about that, if you live in the North, but a Floridian winter means days in the 70s.
But there's still lots of warm weather ahead for all of us, so why not pick up some summer items to wear now. Here's a few suggestions:
Striped tops. Stripes are so popular and fun to wear. Forget the idea that you can't wear horizontal stripes if you're larger. Phooey. Buy a long striped top or one that is asymmetrical.

Check out sleeveless jean jackets or jean vests. Now, this is an accessory you can wear year round.

Try turning the collar up and adding a cute pin. Wear your jacket with longer tops, and in the winter, wear your jean vest over a sweater or a long dress.
Lace tops and red shoes are fun accessories. The other day I found a blac…

Classic White

Classic White
Do you remember wearing your dad's white shirt with your jeans? The classic white shirt never grows old. It is a timeless piece of clothing that you'll never tire wearing.
I've talked about the white shirt before, but it's worth talking about again. I own many, and yes, Northerners, I have an L.L.Bean white shirt. The white shirt is a versatile item that you can wear with jeans, shorts, and dress up with it.
I love combining it with a white shell. The concept of white on white is perfect for summer.

I buttoned the shirt once and let the white shell peek through. Navy blue and white checked pants and a white hat complete the look.
How about black and white? The combination is timeless and the classic white shirt adds to the look.

And for fun, tie the shirt.

And what about jeans? You can never go wrong with the classic white and a pair of jeans.

And finally, I love the white shirt with a skirt.

I almost picked up a sleeveless white shirt the other day, but I did…

Monday Outfit

Monday Outfit
I love the combination of blue and white, especially in summer when I wear white capris pants. And now, I get to combine my white capris with a flowy scarf vest. I just received this vest from Covered Perfectly, a company located in California that caters to women in their 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond. And, the clothes are made in the U.S.
I'm finding as I age, I like the idea of wearing clothing made in America, and clothing that caters to my age group. So here's my Blue Monday outfit with my new cascading vest.

The cascading vest is a combination of blues against a cream white background giving it a soft look. Made of 100% polyester, it has a silky feeling you will love. The vest is longer in the front, so you can tie it for a different look.

Tie it high or low. You can even gather it and tie it to the side. Need a scarf? Fold it and wear it over your shoulders. That's what I like about this vest. It's versatile and the material is silky enough, so you can be …
